Update – January 2014

Hi, I’m still around. I worked at Newcap and Vista Radio in Ontario and BC and am in transition for what is next. Meanwhile, I’m still volunteering at CKCU Ottawa for various shows. Watch this space!

L-A’s back on Window of Opportunity – but just before the big road trip

Hi! Happy May!

I’m finished my radio broadcasting studies at Algonquin College, so I won’t be on CKDJ anymore – except as a guest/alumna in the Fall. I’ll post about my graduation when it comes up in June.

Meanwhile, I have occasional shifts on AIR AM 1700, and I have returned to CKCU. I also work behind the scenes at LiVE 88-5 and love it. When Tony and are on our trip (in Colorado, Arizona and Nevada), Chris White will be hosting the show. Fridays 3 pm Eastern on CKCU 93.1 FM, Rogers Digital Cable 944 or online at ckcufm.com

Stoke the Folk goes north – our last regional show

Stoke the Folk is having it’s last regional show!  We’re going up North!   There is a very strong roots community in the Yukon, so we’ve included a bunch of those folks in the mix.

.

And I had the pleasure of Matt visiting our place on Good Friday.  I’ve always wanted Matt to see our mandolins and charango, and he loved playing my mandolin (see pic to the left).   And Matt also got a beautiful new guitar, which he is proudly showing off in the pic to the right.

Tune in Monday April 9 at nine pm Eastern!   ckdj.net or locally on 107.9 FM in Ottawa

Go west young man! (well, everyone really) Stoke the Folk is in Saskatchewan and Alberta this week!

Caught ya!!!!

I caught Matt in the CKDJ newsroom carrying only two instruments.  He also had a harmonica but didn’t put it on at the time.  But all folkies are used to lugging their own gear. Unless the folkie family and roadies help them/us out.

Matt and I are continuing to have fun on Stoke the Folk.  We only have four more shows this semester, although Matt is continuing the show in September.  I may even drop in as alumni from time to time.  We hope you enjoy our shows and we are thankful for the opportunity to bring our campfire to you every Monday night.

Happy Spring! Well, almost. Stoke the Folk is in Manitoba this week (musically speaking)

Happy Spring!  Well, almost.  This will be the last time that I play the Winter Winds Stoke the Folk promo. But this is Canada, and even though we’re having a warm spell, it can get cold at anytime. Enjoy the warmth while we have it.

My Stoke the Folk co-host Matt Francis and I are really enjoying our time ‘travelling’ across the country to bring you regional folk.  We make some very hard decisions each week.  We only have one hour to work with and only have about five picks each – less if I have a cd review.  But we manage.  I hope you get a chance to listen.

We’re on CKDJ 107-9 every Monday night (to April 16th) at 9 pm Eastern.

Here’s our Manitoba playlist:
