L-A and Matt are back on Stoke the Folk this week!

Make sure to listen in, Monday 9 pm Eastern at ckdj.net. If you let us know you’re listening via the Stoke the Folk Facebook page, we’ll give you a shout out!

This is also Ontario artists 2 week (next week is Manitoba).  There are SO many good Ontario artists.  I can understand why Amanda Putz always has enough to play on her CBC Radio One Bandwidth show.  I had the pleasure of working with her on a short internship and loved it.

Stoke the Folk is pre-empted for March 5, 2012, but we’re continuing planning anyway!

Matt and I have been enjoying doing our regional focus and were to do our Ontario 2 show on Monday, March 5th.  Unfortunately for this show, it’s been bumped by college basketball championship games.

We had already planned most of the show and will air it on March 12th instead.  It includes a cd review of Fred Eaglesmith’s 6 Volts cd.

So we have revised our schedule.  I have also heard from the coordinator of a new local folk festival, who will be on the show April 16th (our last of the semester).

Please continue to tune in to CKDJ for Stoke the Folk!  That’s Mondays 9 pm Eastern on ckdj.net.

You can also hear me on the CKDJ Monday morning show with Doug Ralph (Mondays 6 – 9 am Eastern), Classical Gonq (Tuesdays 6 pm Eastern) – all on ckdj.net.  I’m also on CKCU and AIR Algonquin.

Here is our Stoke the Folk playlist from our Quebec show (February 27, 2012)

Stoke the Folk is going regional right across Canada!

Matt Frankie Francis and I have begun a regional focus for the show and will continue until the show goes off-air at the end of the semester.   Our show is continuing to gain listeners – so if you love folk, please tune in Monday nights 9 pm Eastern at http://www.ckdj.net.

We began our regional focus on January 23 with Ontario and on January 30 with Newfoundland  (both are noted on an earlier page).  On February 3, we continued with Nova Scotia (a difficult decision since so many folk-roots musicians are based in Halifax these days!).  This coming Monday (February 13), Matt and I are playing artists from New Brunswick and PEI.  Three of those artists were played last week since they are from PEI but now based in Halifax.  I plan to continue more cd reviews when we do the Quebec and Ontario-2 artists weeks.

Matt and I have both produced new show promos for Stoke the Folk. His is regional, mine is a segue-way from the seasonal themes that we’ve had since September. Here’s mine, which will go into rotation very soon (Matt’s should be on-air in March).

Here is the new “Winter Winds” promo
Winter Winds Stoke the Folk promo February 2012

February 6, 2012 – Nova Scotia
February 13, 2012 – New Brunswick and PEI
(Note L-A is on CKCU’s Window of Opportunity February 17 with live guests Kris and Dee – ckcufm.com)
February 20, 2012 – Reading Week – off air

January 20 – 23, 2012 on Window of Opportunity and Stoke the Folk

L-A in front of a CBC sign on a music and production internship

CKCU’s Window of Opportunity this week included my cd review of local duo Steel Moon. They had their cd release party at the NAC Fourth Stage on Saturday, January 21. It was wonderful. The show was even better than the cd – their warm personalities shone through, as well as their backing band members. They are rooted in folk rock but they go far beyond in blues, jazz and more.

The CD Review is available on last week’s posting in the Stoke the Folk version.

And for January 23

I’m starting a morning show on CKDJ at 6 am EST, in the regular CKDJ alternative-urban format. And of course, I’m returning to the CKDJ airwaves at 9 pm with Matt Frankie Francis.

Stoke the Folk is beginning a regional focus this week.  January 23 will give us Ontario artists.  Now we could easily fill a semester’s worth of shows of Ontario artists (like Amanda Putz does with Bandwidth on CBC). However, we only have so much ‘real estate’ on the CKDJ airwaves.

We’ll start with Stoke the Folk (January 23, 2012)

Here is the Stoke the Folk playlist:

Stoke the Folk is back! And L-A is also back on Window of Opportunity

L-A in a Paris mood...

.

.

.

.

.

Hi! Happy New Year.

While some believe 2012 is a year of endings (ie Mayan calendar ending in December), I believe 2012 is a year for new beginnings. At least it is for me. Had some good and bad things happen during the Christmas break – a CBC music internship (good) and a complete hard drive/backup drive crash (bad). But I do have a chance to start over in many ways. So while my laptop hard drive is in the hands of a lab for six weeks, I start over with my radio portfolio at CKDJ, AIR Algonquin and CKCU – and maybe more stations in the near future.

I also had a lot of fun doing a special feature for Amanda Putz on CBC Radio 1 Bandwidth on December 23. So I plan to continue to do something special for Stoke the Folk at least every two weeks… or whenever folk releases come out.

I thoroughly enjoyed being back on CKCU’s Window of Opportunity on January 6th.  I hope to be on that show biweekly as I can.  I’m still going to share the show with co-host and husband Tony while I’m at Algonquin this semester.
